NorCal Vacation - Day 5

For our last day, we had a change of pace, with our friend Pauline bringing over her kids to swim in our hotel’s indoor pool. For breakfast, they brought some hot coffee and delicious homemade chocolate-chip banana muffins. The kids had a blast together in the pool, and the parents got some extended and mostly uninterrupted sharing time.

Afterwards, we headed over to the airport (SFO) to drop off our car rental and catch a quick flight back home. Fortunately, NorCal traffic isn’t anything like SoCal, so we were able to make everything smoothly, including a short tram ride to the terminal. [slideshow]

NorCal Vacation - Day 4

We started off the day with breakfast in the Marina District. Then headed over to the Exploratorium for some geeky, science fun. Next, we walked around the Palace of Fine Arts, and then crossed the street to take some pictures of the bay and of course, the Golden Gate Bridge.

We took another food break in the Marina District, grabbing some Italian sandwiches and coffee. Then, we headed over to Lombard Street for some touristy hilly driving.

Afterwards, we headed back across the bay, and met up with Alex and Cynthia for some spicy hot pot at Shau Fei Yang (Little Fat Lamb). The boiling broth was the perfect finish to a chilly day. [slideshow]

NorCal Vacation - Day 3

Day Three started off at the Ferry Building, with some delicious snacks, including Elise’s new favorite food, salami cones from Boccalone.

We then had a mix-up finding our ferry launch to Alcatraz. But thanks to some steady thinking from mommy and a quick trolley ride to the right pier (33, NOT immediately outside Ferry Building), we eventually made it to The Rock. This was Juliette’s favorite stop of the trip, you can check out Ju’s Alcatraz photo tour.

Afterwards, we had to spend some more time eating at the Ferry Building, getting MORE salami, and some tasty seafood stews and oysters at Hog Island. We finished off the day in J-Town with noodles at Mifune (another Chik rec.) and an unplanned shopping frenzy at the 100-yen Daiso store. [slideshow]

NorCal Vacation - Day 2

Our second day started off with dim sum at Ton Kiang (recommended by Chik). We then headed over to the Golden Gate Park to visit the SF Academy of Science (in spite of some GPS shenanigans). There was a bit of a wait to get in, but in the end, we got to see some pretty cool nature stuff.

In the evening, we (mainly Emmanuel) stuffed ourselves on some stuffed pizza at Zachary’s in Berkeley. And we topped it off with dessert at Fenton’s. [slideshow]
