After Ying dropped off the kids in the morning (from the sleepover), we finished up packing up all our bags. And then headed over to Cafe Kaila for some breakfast.

With a couple of hours before we had to check-out, we headed over to the Ala Moana Mall and discovered Shirokiya Department Store, which has a whole Sanrio section. And on the top floor, they have a food court filled with food stalls of authentic Japanese dishes, which we were only too happy to buy up for later consumption on the road.

We then went back to the hotel to get our bags and headed over to the airport where we met up with Fred and Joyce who were on the same flight back to LA. [slideshow]

We started off with an early morning flight out of LAX. After arriving in Hawaii and meeting up with Emmanuel’s parents, we were welcomed at our rental house by Honolulu PD (we inadvertently set off the home alarm while waiting impatiently for the house keys).

Once we had all settled in, we did some shopping downtown to stock up on food and gear up on snorkeling and fishing gear. Elijah finished off the evening with some late night fishing off our back porch. His first catch was a little less than impressive. [slideshow]

Emmanuel went on a business trip to Asia in May. As usual, lots of time spent in meetings and transporting between different cities and more meetings. This time, got to make more use out of Skype with Video. Unfortunately, not much food exploration or shopping. Flying from Beijing to Taipei, our plane was the last flight to land before the typhoon hit. We made it safely back to the hotel, a little wet and tired from the traffic. But we had to cancel our plans to take the high speed rail down to Taichung to visit Rebecca’s brother.

Flying from Beijing to Taipei, our plane was the last flight to land before the typhoon hit. We made it safely back to the hotel, a little wet and tired from the traffic. But we had to cancel our plans to take the high speed rail down to Taichung to visit Rebecca’s brother.

We made the best of it and went out to see what was open around Taipei. Turned out all the malls were closed, and unfortunately, while we were walking, Elise said she wanted to hold her own umbrella and slipped and fell. We hid-out in a McDonald’s while Rebecca went to get appropriate rain gear. [slideshow]
